With stays at our beautiful properties across Cornwall up for grabs, not only will guests bag a bargain for Christmas, but they will also help raise funds for charity. With fund raising for Children in Need headlining November, Cornish Gems have pledged to donate 50% of our commission earned by the auction to the charity.
Sales & Marketing Director of Cornish Gems, Julianne Shelton explains:
"In the US, Thanksgiving Day takes place on Thursday 24th November and the next day is traditionally the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. On this day, many retailers offer heavily discounted sales to kick start the main shopping season (similar to Boxing Day retail sales in the UK). Following this hugely popular US tradition, Cornish Gems have their own massive sale on Friday the 25th November in the style of a Christmas and New Year holiday auction extravaganza."
"Guests will have the opportunity to place a bid over the telephone, email, Facebook and Twitter for a stay in up to 3 of our properties; the highest bidder wins the holiday at their price - provided the appropriate reserve has been met."
The reserve prices will not be publicised, but some properties are discounted by over 50%, so festive bargain hunters will have the chance to grab a fantastic luxurious getaway.
Properties included within the auction will be showcased via Cornish Gems Facebook page as of 4pm on Monday 21st November.
Julianne added "This is the first time we have offered an auction of this nature. Guests choosing to stay with Cornish Gems over the festive season that win a holiday on the day of the auction will not only get the satisfaction of scooping a great deal, they are also helping to raise money for this poignant deserving charity."

Local radio station Pirate FM have invited local businesses to take part in a charity duck race. Local businesses sponsor and choose a unique name for their duck to "race" on the 8th May on the St Austell River at London Apprentice. The Coalition has proposed that Furnished Holiday Let (FHL) owners should make their properties available for 210 days per annum, rather than the current 140, and that the property must be let for a total of 105 days as apposed to the current 70.
There were proposals for a minimum of 140 days paid rental over a twelve month period, so many people within the holiday letting industry are relieved that, even though increased, the 105 days proposal is likely to be applied.
That being said, expanding holiday letting firm Cornish Gems is confident, even if the higher number of days becomes law, that the majority of their home owners will not suffer.
This is because, over the past year Cornish Gems have successfully rented out properties for more days than the proposed new rules on holiday lettings may deem compulsory. 100% of their pure investment properties were rented out for at least 105 days during 2010, with 95% renting for 140 days or more, and the year is not yet over.
Sales and Marketing Director of Cornish Gems Julianne Shelton explains why she feels the proposals will have limited impact on the owners of holiday properties that Cornish Gems let:
“Over this past year we have secured an average occupancy of 175 days for pure investment properties, so we are confident that this potential change to the law won’t impact upon the owners of our ‘Gems’ whether it be 70 or 105 days that is set as the minimum let.
“The proposed increased number of weeks could however affect second homeowners who do not offer their property for many rental weeks throughout the year. We really feel sorry for those who may struggle in the future climate, but we are confident that any owners who work with Cornish Gems will exceed the target rental quota.
“We are aiming to not only satisfying government legislation, but also to ensure that our owners maximise the income available! If anyone is concerned about their holiday home letting for the required number of weeks they should get in touch with Cornish Gems.”
With the consultation period now over, the Government is working to announce the final results of this before Christmas and introduce legislation in the New Year, and so impacting on Furnished Holiday Let owners for 2011.
