Our Charity of the Year: Streetvet

At Cornish Gems, we believe in using our business as a force for good; supporting people, places, and causes that make Cornwall the inspiring place it is. That’s why we’re proud to announce StreetVet Cornwall as our Charity of the Year for 2025.

StreetVet delivers free veterinary care to the pets of those experiencing homelessness across Cornwall. Their work is life-changing — for both the animals they treat and the people they support. From loyal dogs and curious cats to rodents, birds, and even the odd tortoise, their team of volunteer vets and vet nurses ensures that pets are kept healthy, happy, and together with their owners through incredibly difficult times.

“This collaboration will not only raise awareness of StreetVet’s work across Cornwall but also highlight the vital need for our services.”
Zoe Abbotts, CEO of StreetVet

Since launching in Cornwall in 2019, StreetVet has carried out over 2,000 consultations and helped more than 400 animals — running 70+ outreach sessions a year, as well as working with eight pet-friendly hostels to support people transitioning off the streets.

A cause close to our hearts

The idea to support StreetVet started when our Managing Director, Michelle Baillie, met Zoe Abbotts at a local networking event. Moved by the charity’s mission and the stories behind their work, Michelle invited Zoe to our office to share more. It struck a chord with the whole team.

“As a passionate animal lover, I couldn’t be more thrilled that Cornish Gems is supporting an initiative so close to my heart.”
Michelle Baillie, Managing Director

Voting for our Charity of the Year

After a team-wide vote, StreetVet Cornwall was chosen as our 2025 Charity of the Year. We’re excited to stand beside this incredible charity, not just by fundraising, but also by sharing their message far and wide, helping our guests and community learn more about the powerful bond between people and their pets.

Charity spinathon event for Streetvet Cornwall

What’s next?

We’re kicking things off with a Spinathon fundraising event on 21st May, and we’ve already set up a Pet Donation Station at Gems HQ to collect food, toys, and essentials. Our team will also be using their paid volunteer days to support StreetVet’s work on the ground.

Since 2017, we’ve raised over £23,000 for local charities, and our partnership with StreetVet continues our commitment to giving back to the communities we love.

We can’t wait to share more stories and updates with you over the coming year—and if you’d like to support our fundraising efforts, you can donate to the Spinathon here.
