The Property

Once a former Dairy built by the owners Great Grandfather in 1926, Mellingey has been at the heart of the local community for generations. Today this wonderful family home has been bought bang up to date with a sensitive conversion and impressive style to evoke the relaxing ambience and coastal nuances of the nearby river and nautical setting. Upon arrival the driveway sweeps up to the elevated position. The house is reverse level in style to maximise the rural views with a wonderful open plan living, dining and kitchen space plus 2 bedrooms set across the first floor. The kitchen offers all you need for holiday cooking with the contemporary breakfast bar offering a central hub for cooking chat or early children’s suppers. The dining table is set under the bay window with attractive garden and valley views. The versatile living room is as perfect for cosy fireside evenings as for pre-dinner drinks and lazy afternoons. Soak up the natural daylight from the double aspect windows and enjoy the fresh colour palette of whites and maritime blues. The first floor also offers a family shower room and 2 beautiful double bedrooms. A central wooden staircase leads down from the living room to the lower level with spacious master bedroom and further double room, both rooms are ensuite.

Step out onto the sunny paved terrace to the front of the house and enjoy the lush green setting with the River Fowey and valley views below. Mellingey offers a wonderful terraced garden with layers of level lawn for children and dogs to play and pathways leading to quiet benches high above the house for jackpot views. The garden brims with colour throughout the year from the apple tree blossom to the copper beech. The garden offers areas that can be gated for safety. The historic town of Lostwithiel is a very short walk away and lies on the banks of the picturesque River Fowey. Stroll down from your holiday home to the gently flowing river and tranquil ambience. River bank walks offer level access and tempting picnic spots, there is also a dog walking park. This charming town has so much to offer and has become a mecca for antique hunters with many shops packed full of Cornish treasures. If dining out is on the agenda then choose from a number of artisan cafes, a cool deli and stylish restaurants or local pubs. Restormal Castle is within a short walk and well worth a visit for its historic importance to the area. With its central location within South Cornwall, set out for day trips and discover the rural and coastal charm. The maritime town of Fowey is just 7 miles away and well worth a visit, serene river banks walks and country pub lunches and Lerryn are within 3 miles or visit the world renowned Eden Project and admire the botanical plants and inspiring biomes. The village of Charlestown is within easy access and formed part of the backdrop to BBC’s Poldark. A plethora of sports are offered in the area including golf at the nearby Lostwithiel and Bodmin courses, sailing or kayaking in Fowey or simply hit the coastal trails up and over some of the best seascapes in the county. For the budding surfer in the party, head over to the North Cornish coast in just 30 minutes and enjoy the Atlantic rollers at Polzeath, Watergate Bay and Constantine. If beach days are part of the holiday timetable then explore the nearby South coves including Charlestown (15 mins) Pentewan (25 mins) Polkerris (15 mins) and Readymoney under the castle in Fowey within 15-20 mins)

How can I make a reservation?

Advance bookings:

  1. Pay 1/3rd deposit to secure your holiday (33.3%) now and pay the balance 4 weeks before your holiday

Last minute bookings:

  1. Payment in full required for all holidays booked within 28 days of arrival

You can pay securely online or over the phone via Sagepay.

Cautionary Deposit:

  1. A cautionary deposit of £500.00 is required prior to your check in. The day before your arrival we will pre authorise your balance payment card for this amount. Should you wish to use an alternative card then please ensure you have this card readily available when making your balance payment. (Please note you can use a credit card for this without incurring any charges).

When you submit an online reservation, you will receive an automated reservation confirmation. Please contact the reservations team with any questions you may have.

How can I pay

We accept debit cards (no charge), credit cards (2.5% surcharge) and international bank transfers.
We do not accept cheque payments.
