Portingales is a wonderful, three-storey Victorian townhouse in the heart of Fowey. Beautifully renovated and extended recently, it combines original, period features with modern decor and luxury fittings. Portingales enjoys an elevated, second row waterfront position on a delightful terrace. The terrace is an ideal place to observe the flurry of activity on the busy River Fowey, including the chain ferry across to Bodinnick. Parking is within 150 metres and Fowey's many shops, cafes, galleries and restaurants are just a short walk away. Dogs are welcome at Portingales (house rules and pet supplement will apply).
Wonderfully renovated and restyled, Cornish Gems are delighted to re-introduce Portingales. The house retains period features such as original sash windows, doors, fireplaces and stripped wooden floorboards yet has been stylishly decorated with an eclectic mix of vintage, antique and contemporary furniture and accessories. The house has three large bedrooms and two bathrooms and is full of character and charm. The ground floor comprises a large, open-plan living and dining area which opens up into a carefully-designed new kitchen. The lounge, with its large bay window, overlooks Passage Street and offers views of the river and countryside beyond. The original fireplace houses a newly-installed woodburning stove. The dining room also has its original fireplace. There is a large oak dining table complemented by vintage Ercol chairs. The kitchen is well-equipped with all the essentials, it also has a few extras including a Gaggia coffee maker, juicer and ice cream maker. Stairs lead up to the first floor landing where there are two bedrooms and a shower room. The double room has a large bay window with river views and a feature fireplace. The twin room is at the back of the house and has views towards the garden. Another staircase leads to the top floor accommodation comprising another double bedroom and a bathroom. There are river views from both rooms.
To the front of the house there is a small terrace with a table and chairs. This area catches the morning sun and is the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the hustle and bustle of traffic on the river. Portingales also has a large, elevated garden behind the house which is accessed from the second floor landing via a flight of decked steps (reasonably steep). The garden has impressive river views and overlooks Ferryside, the house where the novelist Daphne Du Maurier lived when she first came to Fowey. There is a summerhouse and an outdoor dining table as well as barbecue - the perfect place for al fresco dining. Fowey is an historic port nestled between Looe and Mevagissey on the south Cornish coast. The surrounding countryside is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Fowey's stunning natural harbour is a haven for yachtsmen. During August thousands of visitors flock to the town for the Fowey Royal Regatta, chosen by Debrett’s as one of the must-attend outdoor events of the Social Season. Fowey has a wide selection of shops, cafes, galleries, restaurants and fine dining hotels. The beach at Readymoney Cove is the ideal place for a spot of relaxation while those looking for more of a challenge can enjoy a hike around the nearby cliffs. This picturesque Cornish harbour town really does offer something for everyone to enjoy all year round.
Whether you are a regular visitor to Fowey or are planning your first visit, Portingales provides the perfect base for your stay.
