The UK’s unofficial surfing capital, Newquay is shrugging off its image as a full-throttle party town and putting itself firmly on the map as a surfing and foodie mecca. Michelin-starred eateries and swanky sundowner bars are flinging open their doors between the surf outlets and amusement arcades – even Rick Stein is frying up fish and chips beside the wave-lashed sands. Of course, surfing is still at the heart of the town’s laidback beach culture, but beyond the world-class waves at Fistral Beach there’s plenty of peaks to choose from on the string of seven beaches between Crantock Bay and Lusty Glaze.
