A Green Cornwall Itinerary | The Colours of Cornwall
When people picture Cornwall, it's often the blues of the ocean that first come to mind. But venture a little further inland and you'll discover another side to the county – one painted in rich woodland canopies, ancient temperate rainforests, rolling countryside and flourishing gardens. Green is the colour of growth, restoration and reconnection, inviting us to slow down and immerse ourselves in nature.
For the next instalment of our Colours of Cornwall series, we're heading beneath the trees. From one of Britain's rare rainforests and historic National Trust landscapes, to the world-famous Eden Project, this three-day itinerary celebrates the places where Cornwall's greener side truly comes to life.

Day 1: Cardinham – Woodlands and temperate rainforests
Begin your green adventure with breakfast at Charlie's Farm Shop & Cafe, a hidden gem just outside Bodmin where the menu celebrates fresh, homegrown produce. Tuck into warm pastries, artisan breads and locally sourced ingredients before browsing the beautifully curated farm shop, where you can pick up everything from seasonal vegetables to Cornish delicacies to enjoy later in your stay.
From here, head to Cabilla Valley, home to the Thousand Year Trust – the UK's only charity dedicated solely to restoring Britain's temperate rainforests and proudly Cornish Gems' Charity of the Year. These remarkable landscapes once covered large areas of Britain's western coast but are now among the country's rarest habitats. Inspired by the extraordinary lifespan of the sessile oak, which can live for centuries, the Trust is working to protect and restore these magical ecosystems for generations to come. Wander beneath moss-covered branches, discover rare lichens and ferns, and experience the peaceful atmosphere of one of Cornwall's most extraordinary natural landscapes. Get in touch with the team at Thousand Year Trust to book your visit.
Round off the day at Cardinham Woods, where miles of woodland trails wind through towering trees and alongside gently flowing streams. Whether you're looking for a leisurely stroll, a challenging cycling route or a scenic dog walk, there's a trail for every pace. Autumn is particularly special here, as the woodland glows with rich golds, ambers and greens. Before you leave, stop at The Woods Cafe for a well-earned refreshment. If you're feeling hungry, don't miss their croque monsieur – a firm favourite and highly recommended by Rachel from the Cornish Gems team.

Day 2: Lanhydrock – Historic landscapes and seasonal flavours
Ease into the morning with coffee from The Brew Box, nestled amongst the trees near Respryn Bridge. This independent coffee stop has become a favourite with locals and visitors alike, serving expertly crafted coffee in a peaceful woodland setting before you begin your day.
Just moments away lies the magnificent National Trust estate of Lanhydrock, where over 900 acres of parkland, woodland and formal gardens surround one of Cornwall's grandest country houses. Wander ancient woodland paths, cycle through peaceful forest trails or explore the beautifully preserved Victorian home, where every room tells a story of Cornwall's rich history. The estate changes beautifully throughout the seasons, making every visit feel different from the last.
As evening approaches, head toward nearby Bodmin for dinner at Fern. One of Cornwall's most exciting restaurants, Fern creates seasonal menus inspired entirely by what's fresh, local and at its very best. Working closely with Cornish growers, farmers, fishermen and artisan producers, every dish celebrates the landscape that surrounds it. Creative, refined and deeply connected to the seasons, it's the perfect way to end a day immersed in Cornwall's greener side.

Day 3: Eden Project – A celebration of nature
No green itinerary would be complete without a visit to one of Cornwall's most iconic attractions: the Eden Project.
Before exploring the famous biomes, make time for breakfast or a morning coffee at Ten Ten Coffee in nearby Charlestown. Known for its exceptional coffee, freshly baked pastries and relaxed atmosphere, it's the perfect place to fuel up before a day of discovery.
Then spend the day wandering through the Eden Project's extraordinary living landscapes. Journey from the lush Rainforest Biome to the fragrant Mediterranean gardens, discover innovative planting schemes and learn how people and nature can thrive together. Whether you're visiting for the first time or returning once again, there's always something new to experience within this remarkable space.
To finish your itinerary, head to Knightor Winery, just a short drive from the Eden Project, for one of their much-loved Feast Nights. Set within a beautifully restored barn, these evenings celebrate Cornwall's exceptional produce with generous sharing feasts, seasonal ingredients and, of course, award-winning Cornish wines. If you discover a new favourite vintage, why not continue your green journey with a visit to Knightor's vineyard near Portscatho on your next Cornish adventure?
