We've had a wonderful week here at Tregonna House-thoroughly relaxing in the very lovely rooms and the perfect garden.
Tucked away behind large wooden gates, Tregonna House is a majestic slate-hung country manor house with a wonderful sense of privacy and arrival. Step into the central hallway and continue through to the heart of the home: the open-plan kitchen and dining area, a warm and characterful space made for gathering, cooking and sharing time together.
The beautiful kitchen oozes country style, with Cornish slate floors, a traditional AGA and a chunky wooden scrub kitchen table that invites everyone to pull up a chair. North Cornwall is firmly on the foodie map, with first-class artisan producers close by, from fresh shellfish and Baker Tom’s bread to Padstow Kitchen Garden and Padstow Brewing Company. Gather as a group, get creative in the kitchen and enjoy the very best local flavours.
The large dining table is perfect for everything from lunches on the go to simple suppers and slow holiday meals. Just off the kitchen, a generous utility-cum-boot room offers plenty of space to stow beach bags, coats, sandy shoes and surf kit, keeping holiday life beautifully practical.
Also on the ground floor, a large contemporary double-shower wet room, accessed from both the house and the driveway, is perfectly placed for a post-beach or post-surf wash down.
The separate living room offers a quiet escape from the chatter of the kitchen, with space to enjoy fireside afternoon tea, relaxed evenings or a favourite film after a day exploring the coast. A sunny conservatory sits just off the living room, providing another peaceful breakout space for morning coffee, the daily papers or a quiet moment with a book.
For special occasions, the formal dining room can be beautifully dressed for celebrations to remember, from milestone birthdays to long-awaited family gatherings.
A central staircase leads to the first floor, where 4 bedrooms and the family bathroom are arranged around the central landing. Each bedroom offers a fresh neutral colour palette, with cool whites creating a calm and restful ambience, complemented by quality furniture, furnishings and thoughtful styling.
No less considered, the contemporary bathroom adds an indulgent touch to the first floor, offering the perfect place to refresh and unwind after a day on the coast.
The established garden can be reached from the front door or boot room, making it easy to drift between house and garden throughout the day. In summer, this peaceful country setting comes alive with colour and birdsong, while mature trees wrap the space in privacy, shade and a wonderful sense of calm.
A small grassed lawn gives children and dogs a safe place to play, and the large wooden gates can be closed for added peace of mind. As the day slows, gather around the outdoor dining table for long al fresco lunches, sundowners and relaxed suppers after salty days on the coast.
From Tregonna House, North Cornwall is yours to savour. Padstow is just a 10-minute drive away, where harbour life, boutique shops and celebrated restaurants create a deliciously Cornish day out. Enjoy fish and chips on the quay, book a special supper at Rick Stein’s or Paul Ainsworth’s, or simply watch the boats come and go with an ice cream in hand.
Beach days feel wonderfully effortless from here. Follow the coast to Harlyn Bay, Trevone, Constantine Bay or Watergate Bay for golden sand, rolling surf, rock pools and big Atlantic skies. Whether you’re swimming, surfing, building sandcastles or walking barefoot at sunset, this stretch of coast is made for memory-making.
For those drawn to the water, the Camel Estuary and nearby surf beaches offer kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding and surf lessons, while the South West Coast Path promises dramatic clifftop views, hidden coves and picnic spots you’ll want to linger in.
Closer to home, Little Petherick Creek offers a gentler pace. Wander along the lane beside the estuary towards Padstow, listening to birdsong and watching the light shift across the water. The Camel Trail is another must, with flat, scenic cycling from Wadebridge or Padstow through some of Cornwall’s most beautiful estuary scenery.
Whether you’re planning lazy summer days, windswept winter walks or an action-packed weekend by the sea, Tregonna House offers a warm, characterful and deeply relaxing taste of Cornish living.
