The property is fabulous! The views, the amenities, the
location - all fabulous. My son is a wheelchair user so
it's difficult to find high quality properties that are
accessible and the lift in the Barrels was a massive plus for us, we could get him up and down the floors easily. Without the lift we wouldn't have been able to stay there. Thank you for arranging the mid-stay clean. We had a different set of friends stay for the second week so it was perfect to have all the bedding changed etc on the Friday. Thanks again for arranging that.
Expect the unexpected at The Barrels. Behind the original façade of the former miners’ cottages, a spectacular world of space, light and design is revealed. Full-height ceilings, vast glass windows and a striking fusion of old and new create a home that feels both deeply connected to its heritage and boldly contemporary. Sandy stone walls meet poured concrete, natural textures sit alongside architectural lines, and every detail has been considered to celebrate the building’s remarkable transformation.
Set over three floors, The Barrels begins on the ground floor, where clever design opens up a dramatic central full-height space. Here you’ll also find the games room, complete with table tennis, a pool table, board games and a large Smart TV. It’s a brilliant space for children, teenagers and the young at heart, offering plenty of room for relaxed fun after days spent on the beach or exploring the coast.
Four of the five bedrooms are also located on the ground floor, each offering a bespoke, pared-back interior with an organic feel. Natural stone, soft grey, cream and green hues create a calm and restful atmosphere, echoing the colours of the surrounding coastline and countryside. A practical utility and boot room complete the ground floor, perfect for sandy shoes, wetsuits and coastal kit.
The dramatic central staircase leads from the natural stone and slate of the ground floor up towards the first and second floors, where the interiors take on a more contemporary feel. On the first floor, the ensuite primary bedroom overlooks the garden and coastal views, offering a peaceful and indulgent retreat within the home.
A few steps further and the fabulous cinema room awaits, setting the scene for movie nights with popcorn in hand. Sink into the oversized tiered chairs, pull over a blanket and settle in for the ultimate surround sound experience. Adjacent to the cinema room, the private gym and yoga studio offers everything from boxing gloves and a punch bag to yoga mats and weights, making it easy to stretch, train or reset during your stay.
Ascend the final steps and the true reveal of this incredible building unfolds in the second-floor kitchen, dining and living space. Flooded with natural light, this generous open-plan area showcases the drama of the location through full-height glass doors that frame the coastline beautifully. From earthy valley tones and historic mine chimney stacks to seasonal pink heathers, rolling greens and the blues of Trevaunance Cove, every view feels like a living artwork.
The living space is just as inviting in summer sunshine as it is when winter winds roll in from the Atlantic. Guests can sink into the moss green sofa, watch the waves crash over the rocks and enjoy the changing moods of the coast from the comfort of this extraordinary room. The kitchen has been thoughtfully equipped with everything needed for memorable stay-at-home suppers, while the large dining table can be dressed to impress for celebrations or kept simple for lazy holiday meals.
For added ease, The Barrels also includes a private lift for quick journeys from top to bottom, adding another thoughtful touch to this beautifully designed and highly individual coastal home.
From its elevated cliffside position, slide back the full-height glass doors and step out onto the upper terrace, where far-reaching views sweep across St Agnes and down to Trevaunance Cove, with the valley and rugged coastline beyond. This exceptional outdoor space is designed for sociable living, with two large dining tables combining to seat the whole party – perfect for celebratory suppers, long Sunday brunches or relaxed afternoons of coffee and cake with the sound of the sea below.
A few steps down, the cedar hot tub offers an indulgent retreat in every season. Sink into the warm bubbles and take in the coastal air after a day exploring, while the lower garden wraps around the property with a lawn and terraces connected by landscaped steps, all thoughtfully positioned to capture the views.
The garden has been creatively planted with shrubs, herbs and flowers, helping to root the home into its natural surroundings and creating a peaceful, sensory space to unwind.
If you can bear to leave your private oasis, Trevaunance Cove’s beautiful beach is just steps away, along with Schooners and The Driftwood Spars, perfect for relaxed food and drinks by the sea.
Wander up into St Agnes village and you’ll discover a vibrant and characterful food scene, with favourites including the award-winning Peterville Inn, The Taphouse and a tempting collection of cafés, bakeries and bars. From barista coffee and fresh pastries to laid-back lunches and evening dining, there is plenty to enjoy close to home.
Trevaunance Cove is a natural playground, popular for surfing, bodyboarding and swimming, while calmer days invite paddleboarding and kayaking along the coast. When the surf is up, nearby Chapel Porth offers another favourite spot for wave riders, set against dramatic mining heritage scenery.
The surrounding coastline is rich in history and natural beauty, with St Agnes’ mining heritage still visible in the iconic engine houses and chimney stacks along the cliffs. The South West Coast Path offers some of Cornwall’s most breathtaking walking routes, while a climb up St Agnes Beacon rewards with panoramic views stretching for miles along the north coast.
From here, you’re perfectly placed to explore further afield, with Perranporth, Newquay and Padstow to the north, and Hayle, Carbis Bay and St Ives to the west, all offering their own unique mix of beaches, surf, food and coastal charm. Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation or a little of both, The Barrels places you at the heart of it all.
