This was our fourth visit to Treloan Barn and, as ever,
everything was of the highest standard. A beautiful, stylish property in an excellent location.
Treloan Barn is a beautiful split-level stone mill set within an attractive, spacious garden, where rural calm and coastal character come together with ease. Step into the heart of the house on the ground floor, where the open-plan living, dining and kitchen areas have been cleverly designed around the original cogs and wheels of the once-working mill, creating a striking and memorable feature.
The kitchen is well equipped with everything needed for relaxed holiday cooking, while nearby farm shops, roadside stalls and local grocery shops make it easy to fill your menu with the best of Cornwall’s seasonal produce. From lazy breakfasts and picnic prep to long suppers shared around the table, this is a space made for gathering.
The full-height living and dining area offers a wonderfully sociable layout, with glass doors on both sides leading out to wraparound terraces and the extensive garden. In the cooler months, settle beside the crackling log burner with a good book, while sunny days invite you to throw open the doors and enjoy the ultimate indoor-outdoor holiday atmosphere.
The primary bedroom is located on the ground floor, offering private access to the terrace and a contemporary ensuite shower room for added comfort and ease. A practical storage area and cloakroom complete the ground floor layout, ideal for beach bags, walking boots and holiday essentials.
Climb the open-tread stairs to the first floor, where 2 further luxury bedrooms promise restful nights after days spent on the coast. The family bathroom adds a peaceful touch of pampering, perfect for refreshing after beach walks, sea swims or exploring The Roseland Peninsula.
Throughout the house, thoughtfully chosen artwork evokes the maritime and coastal nuances of this beautiful part of Cornwall. Attractive cottage interiors blend effortlessly with the authentic stone, timber and ironwork of the mill, creating a home that feels full of history, comfort and quiet luxury.
Treloan Barn is set within an oasis of rolling lawn, rewilded wildflower meadow and paved terraces, creating a peaceful outdoor setting that feels beautifully connected to the surrounding countryside. From the top of the garden, sit with a morning coffee and gaze out across the sea views, or follow the day-long sunshine from one quiet corner to the next.
The terrace is accessed directly from the living space and wraps around both sides of the barn, making indoor-outdoor living effortless. Once a watering hole for horses and cattle, the large trough has been thoughtfully transformed into an attractive water feature planted with aqua plants, adding another charming nod to the barn’s rural past.
Holiday days at Treloan can be as relaxed or as full as you choose, drifting between the garden, the sea, the beach, local villages and nearby attractions. The Roseland Peninsula enjoys a quieter pace than many of Cornwall’s better-known hotspots, offering a serene and unspoilt stretch of the south coast where hidden coves, winding lanes and coastal views set the rhythm.
The charming fishing village of Portscatho is a short 10-minute walk across the fields, where guests can enjoy supper at The Plume of Feathers, barista-prepared coffee on the harbour wall, groceries from Ralph’s and the timeless sight of local fishermen hauling their pots in the traditional way. A short stroll beyond Portscatho harbour brings you to Porthcurnick Beach, a beautiful sandy cove perfect for swimming, picnics and slow beach days.
Gerrans is just a 5-minute walk away, where The Standard Inn offers an inspiring menu and relaxed village atmosphere. Smaller sheltered beaches such as Porthcurnick, Porthbean and Towan are within easy reach, with crystal-clear waters, soft sands and shoreline treasures scattered with shells.
With Cornwall firmly on the foodie map, you are never far from a barista coffee, homemade cake, locally made pasty for your beach picnic or freshly caught mackerel from The Hidden Hut at Porthcurnick, one of the area’s most celebrated places to eat by the sea.
Just a short drive away, St Mawes is one of the jewels of The Roseland, with a sheltered harbour, waterside restaurants, independent shops and a wonderfully relaxed sailing atmosphere. Ferries from St Mawes quay cross the River Fal to Falmouth and also offer scenic trips towards Flushing and Truro on a high tide, making days out on the water wonderfully easy.
Smart restaurants including The Watch House and The Idle Rocks sit alongside traditional pubs and simple seaside favourites, from fresh seafood to fish and chips on the quay. From open gardens and secluded beaches to miles of coastal paths, iconic headlands and gentle creekside adventures, Treloan Barn places you perfectly for immersing yourself in the natural beauty of The Roseland Peninsula.
