The Dairy

Deep in the breathtaking Roseland Peninsula and by the Heritage Coast, this former farm outbuilding has been sympathetically refurbished into an eco-conscious sanctuary made for two. Crafted with repurposed building materials and furnished with comfort in mind, The Dairy is a neatly-appointed space and the perfect base from which to explore the walks and waters of the Roseland Peninsula. The bedroom has been furnished in muted tones for a tranquil place to lay your head. Featuring a paved terrace, eco-friendly garden and ample outdoor space with views to St Mawes, the Carrick Roads estuary and, on a clear day, The Lizard Peninsula. The owner is an aromatherapist and beauty therapist who can offer treatments during your stay - contact details can be found in the property’s digital guide upon booking. The Dairy adjoins The Cowshed (with accommodation for eight guests), making them perfect for booking together.

Second visit to this lovely cottage and we were not disappointed. The cottage is lovely, extremely well appointed and very cozy. It has everything you would need for a week away from it all. Loads of walks. Portscatho is a lovely village and the two pubs are wonderful. Also, the addition of the bird feeder outside the kitchen window was a real treat as, every morning, we were greeted with loads of blue and great tits scoffing away! Already looking forward to coming back next year and discovering more walks!

Step Inside

The Dairy has been transformed from a 1930s barn into a relaxing eco holiday haven. Enter from the terrace to the full-height open-plan living, dining and kitchen area, mapped out for ease and simplicity; hang out whilst preparing meals with fresh local ingredients, cosy up on the sofa with a romantic movie, or simply idle together in comfort.

Sink into a hot bath in the modern bathroom or wrap yourselves up in the soft creamy hues and crisp white linens of the peaceful double bedroom after a day’s coastal adventuring.

The furnished suntrap terrace is an ideal spot for morning coffees and alfresco dining in the sun, as you sit serenely amongst eco-friendly planting. The adjoining field is perfect for picnicking, practising yoga and for simply gazing at the views across the fields, down to the Percuil River, away to St Mawes and beyond.

On Your Doorstep

You can hike some of the most breathtaking stretches of the South West Coast Path and roam the creeks and inlets of the Percuil River and River Fal with your dog.

Visit the National Trusts’ St Anthony’s Head at the tip of the Roseland, with its commanding views across the Carrick Roads Estuary and home of historic military fortifications. Walk around the headland or take a perch in the bird-watching hide to observe the various birds of prey and coastal birds found in the area.

Skip across the River Fal on the famed King Harry Ferry to the hugely popular Trelissick to wander through the gardens’ exotic planting and herbaceous borders, stroll with your dog along the woodland walk, or admire the views down the estuary from the house’s grand portico.

The Roseland’s coastal villages of St Mawes and Portscatho boast some of Cornwall’s most lauded eateries. Portscatho is a mile walk from The Dairy and is home to The Standard Inn and its tantalising seasonal menus, as well as the sublime Hidden Hut, set just above Porthcurnick Beach. Only a 15-minute drive away, St Mawes’ Rising Sun designs its delicious seasonal menu to showcase the very best of local produce, and the locally renowned Seafood Bar takeaway, right on the quay, delivers delectable seafood with the freshest local catch. The award-winning Da Bara bakery also has one of their three Cornwall shops on the St Mawes quay, with a scrumptious selection of artisan breads and pastries perfect for taking back to your holiday home to savour. St Mawes, otherwise known as the 'St Tropez of England', comes highly praised, particularly by the Royal Family, who proclaim it as 'Britain’s loveliest seaside village'.

For those seeking water-based adventure, the unique sheltered waterways of the Carrick Roads are a hive of activity for boat trips and water sports. Roseland Paddle & Sail is within easy walking distance of The Diary and offers taster sessions, courses and hire for kayaking, SUPboarding, sailing and windsurfing.

The monumental rhododendrons and camellias of The Lost Gardens of Heligan as well as the springtime gardens at the Caerhays Estate - open to the public February to June - are both within a 30-minute drive from The Dairy. Truro, Cornwall’s only cathedral city, is also around a 30-minute drive away and the vibrant town of Falmouth is a 20-minute ferry ride from St Mawes.
