The remote and tranquil setting makes The Carthouse an ideal bolthole for romantic getaways. The Carthouse boasts a modestly elegant Iglucraft summerhouse available to book between the warmer months, April and September, for a Sleeps 6 option.
We have had a truly fabulous week in The Carthouse. It is a very beautiful barn conversion finished to the highest standards. A great location to visit the attractions of West Cornwall and near a great village too. Just Fabulous!
The Carthouse tastefully combines traditional and modern to create a unique eco-conscious holiday haven. Enter the split-level layout to the two exquisitely appointed bedrooms and a boldly designed family shower room. The beautiful master room features high ceilings, repurposed furniture, and a free-standing double-ended slipper bath. The second bedroom is a cosy nook with a four-poster bamboo bed draped in a soft linen canopy.
Step down to the open-plan living, kitchen, and dining area featuring a centrepiece log burner to warm yourselves after a day of walking the Cornish coastal path. The kitchen is a chef’s dream with the Everhot stove, ideal for cooking home-reared meats and vegetables from the nearby award-winning St Buryan Farm Shop.
Open the full-height doors at either end of the space to let the fresh Cornish air flow through and connect with the outdoor areas; relax and dine together in the tranquil courtyard or finish your days unwinding under a blanket of stars in the wood-fired hot tub.
West Cornwall is a place of legend, historical intrigue and breathtaking coastline. From its bygone smuggling past, to the iconic tidal island of St Michael’s Mount, and the world-renowned Minack Theatre carved into the cliff at Porthcurno, there is abundant reason to visit this remote corner of the county.
Sennen Cove and Porthcurno beach, offering soft sands and turquoise waters, are around ten minutes drive from The Carthouse, along with secluded beaches scattered along the coastline just waiting to be discovered.
Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehole are all within a fifteen minute drive, boasting an array of eateries, bakeries, independent shops and galleries. For food lovers, there is the bustling and vibrant 45 Queen Street bar & kitchen and the indulgent pastries of Loafs bakery in Penzance. Newlyn is home to the harbourside restaurant Argoe - a favourite of The Carthouse owner - with a daily seafood-focused menu that only uses bycatch from local fishermen. Visit the artisan cafes of Mousehole, dotted around the harbour, for a change of pace.
Head to Penzance for the independent shops Seven Stones and Fishboy PZ for curated fashion and lifestyle brands, or stop by The Exchange and Newlyn Art Gallery for a little culture.
The Carthouse is perfectly placed to explore wider Cornwall, including St Ives, Gwithian, and the stunning Lizard peninsula.
