Step Inside
Highviews is a thoughtfully designed, sumptuously urbane family holiday home with disabled access. Enter the property via the rear into the light-filled space, with crisp white walls, high ceilings and refined interiors. Off the entrance hall to the left is the ample and well-equipped kitchen. With a family-sized fridge-freezer, bank of four ovens and five-ring induction hob, it’s a cook’s dream; the perfect place to prepare meals with fresh produce from Etherington's award-winning Farm Shop, just a short drive away. From the central island you have direct views of the living and dining space, out to the garden and the countryside beyond. Unwind and idle on the luxurious corner sofa, positioned to best enjoy the spectacular vista through the large tri-fold doors, rain or shine, with the woodburner warming the air and the soul in the cooler months. The chic dining area and 8-seater table similarly connect to the outdoors, enjoying views down to the headland.
To the right of the entrance hall is the plush snug with bi-fold doors to the decking and garden, as well as the downstairs wetroom - ideal for rinsing off after a surf - and the utility room. There is also access to the self-contained downstairs double bedroom, ensuite and kitchenette with its own exterior entrance door, making Highviews ideal for grandparents and carers joining your Cornwall visit.
Ascend the beautifully crafted stairs to the first floor and the three stylish double bedrooms, along with the family bathroom and its seductive free-standing bathtub. The grand master-bedroom is designed to maximise the views; take your morning coffee by the Juliet balcony and marvel at the panoramic landscape from St Agnes Beacon all the way to St Ives on a clear day.
Extend the living space by opening wide the large folding doors to the west-facing decked terrace at the front of the property; perfect for bathing in the afternoon rays and sharing a bottle of wine in the evening as the sun sets on the horizon, while children delight in the spacious garden and its sunken trampoline. To the rear of the property is the private outdoor furnished living space, connected to the house via the kitchen’s large folding doors. Enjoy an alfresco breakfast in the morning sun, feast on food prepared on the gas barbeque, or simply luxuriate in the hot tub under a beautiful Cornish sky.
On Your Doorstep
Highviews’ mid-county, North Coast location makes it the perfect base from which to explore Cornwall. With a variety of beaches, hiking and cycling paths, family attractions and bustling Cornish towns all within a 30-minute drive away, there’s little chance of running out of things to do, whatever the weather.
Just a 10-minute walk from your holiday doorstep is Porthtowan beach; popular with local families and keen surfers, but off-the-beaten-track just enough to avoid the summer hoards. The sheer cliffs perfectly frame the soft sands and sea view, making Porthtowan one of Cornwall’s best spots to watch the sun disappear over the Atlantic horizon on a summer’s evening. Huddle together on the beach and tuck into fish and chips from the locally beloved Seasmiths or enjoy a drink at the lively Blue Bar as you let the Cornish sunset soothe your soul. One of Cornwall's finest plant-based restaurants, Canteen, is located in Porthtowan’s Eco Park, creating flavourful dishes with produce grown in their community garden.
A little further up the coast is the ruggedly beautiful and secluded Chapel Porth beach, worth visiting alone for the beach cafe’s decadent icecreams in the daytime or in the evening for the lauded Night Hatch summertime pop-up kitchen. The small town of St Agnes, with its selection of delicious eateries, is less than a 10-minute drive away; Highview’s owner highly recommends the exciting institute cafe for hearty breakfasts and mouthwatering deli-style sandwiches, as well as Verdant’s excellent family-friendly Schooners beachfront bar and pizza restaurant. Stop by Trunk Deli - recommended by our own team - for delectable supplies to feast on back at your holiday home.
Avid hikers and cyclists will delight in easy access to a variety of paths and routes; head south along the South West Coast Path from Porthtowan to Portreath, on to Godrevey and Hayle, taking in one of the most dramatic and breathtaking sections of the entire trail. Keep an eye out along the way for seals sunning themselves at Mutton Cove. Travel inland to the Great Flat Lode, a 7-mile circular walk traversing an area rich in Cornwall’s tin mining heritage; make a pitstop at the Croust Hut for delicious mid-walk refreshment - another recommendation from our team - and be sure to ascend the iconic Carn Brea for panoramic views all the way to St Ives. Cornwall is a cyclist's dream with ample on- and off-road route options, including the 11-mile Coast-to-Coast Trail from Porthreath to Devoran, passing just outside Porthtowan.
Highview’s central location puts you in easy reach of a number of Cornwall’s best family attractions. Healeys Cyder Farm is a popular destination for families with its farm animals, vintage tractor rides, guided tours and tastings. Get up close to an array of birds and animals at Paradise Park wildlife sanctuary, or tire the kids out at Lappa Valley with its wealth of family-friendly activities. If you’re looking for more adrenalin-oriented action catering for all ages and abilities, The Track offers miles of bike tracks and jumps, and Mount Hawk Skate Park boasts impressive indoor courses, ramps and bowls. Tehidy Country Park, West Cornwall’s largest woodland area, is popular with families and dog walkers and home to the 18-hole Tehidy Park Golf Club and the famous Rogue Otherworld outdoor theatre.
The towns of Truro, Falmouth, Newquay and St Ives - each offering their own flavour of Cornwall - are all within a 30-minute drive of Highviews. With their unique combinations of shops, eateries and museums, they make for quality alternative activities when the weather is misbehaving. Truro’s Cornwall Museum & Art Gallery houses collections steeped in Cornish history while the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth showcases the county’s rich maritime history, both providing hands-on interactive activities for children.
