A cultural guide to Cornwall this spring and summer

Spring and summer in Cornwall bring more than golden beaches and coastal walks. As the county warms and the days stretch longer, its towns and harbours come alive with festivals, exhibitions, music, theatre and storytelling.

From the scent of street food drifting through fishing villages to art inspired by Cornwall’s wild landscapes, the season is rich with culture. Whether you’re visiting for a week or settling into a longer coastal escape, here are some of the events and experiences that capture Cornwall at its most vibrant.

Food

  • Porthleven Food Festival (24th–26th April) - Set against the dramatic harbour walls of Porthleven, this much-loved festival celebrates Cornwall’s exceptional food scene. Expect chef demonstrations, artisan producers and plenty of opportunities to sample fresh seafood and local delicacies, all with the sound of waves breaking just beyond the harbour.
  • St Ives Food Festival (15th–17th May) - Held right on Porthminster Beach, this festival combines spectacular coastal views with outstanding Cornish cuisine. Local chefs, street food traders and independent producers gather to showcase the flavours of the region, creating a relaxed, beachside celebration of food and community.
  • Falmouth Food Festival (22nd–25th May) - Falmouth’s historic streets fill with the aromas of global cuisine and Cornish classics during this lively festival. With pop-up kitchens, chef demonstrations and bustling market stalls, it’s a chance to experience the town’s thriving food culture in a wonderfully sociable atmosphere.
  • Mevagissey Feast Week (28th June–4th July) - One of Cornwall’s oldest village celebrations, Mevagissey Feast Week blends food, music and local traditions in the heart of this picturesque fishing harbour. Expect everything from crab sandwiches and barbecues, to parades, gigs and a joyful community spirit that welcomes visitors in.
  • Newquay Food Festival (9th–12th July) - Overlooking the Atlantic at Killacourt, this festival pairs sweeping ocean views with a vibrant mix of food stalls, chef demos and live music. It’s a relaxed, family-friendly event where the flavours of Cornwall meet the laid-back energy of one of the county’s most famous surf towns.
  • Rock Oyster Festival (23rd–26th July) - On the banks of the Camel Estuary, this festival blends outstanding food with music and wellbeing experiences. Known for its focus on sustainable seafood and local produce, it’s a celebration of Cornwall’s culinary heritage in a beautiful riverside setting.

  • Magic of Movement: Automata and the Memory Café at Falmouth Art Gallery (until 9th May) - This charming exhibition brings intricate mechanical artworks to life, exploring movement, craftsmanship and storytelling.   • Tate St Ives – Spring and Summer Exhibitions - Perched above Porthmeor Beach, Tate St Ives continues its tradition of showcasing world-class modern and contemporary art inspired by light, landscape and place. Seasonal exhibitions throughout spring and summer celebrate both international artists and Cornwall’s enduring creative legacy.

Music

  • Tunes in the Dunes (5th–7th June) - Few music festivals can match the setting of this beachside event in Perranporth. With the Atlantic as its backdrop, live performances stretch from sunset into the evening, creating an unforgettable atmosphere where music meets the rhythm of the sea.
  • Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival (12th–14th June) - Harbours, pubs and streets echo with the sounds of traditional sea shanties during this joyful maritime festival. Crews from across the world gather to sing songs of sailors, voyages and storms, celebrating Cornwall’s deep connection to the ocean.
  • Eden Sessions (Various Dates Throughout Summer) - Held within the iconic Eden Project, these concerts bring world-renowned artists to perform against the dramatic backdrop of the biomes. As twilight settles over the gardens, the experience feels both intimate and spectacular.
  • Boardmasters (5th–9th August) - Combining world-class surfing with a major music lineup, Boardmasters captures the youthful energy of Newquay’s coastline. Days begin with surf competitions and end with huge performances overlooking the cliffs and sea.
  • Tunes in the Park (27th–30th August) - This relaxed late-summer festival blends live music with the beauty of Cornwall’s open green spaces. It’s a chance to unwind with friends and family, enjoying great performances in a laid-back setting as summer begins to wind down.
  • Cornwall Folk Festival (27th–31st August) - In the charming harbour town of Wadebridge, traditional and contemporary folk music take centre stage. Concerts, sessions and street performances create a warm and welcoming atmosphere celebrating storytelling through song.

Literature

  • The Roseland Festival (24th April–3rd May) - Set within the tranquil Roseland Peninsula, this festival celebrates literature, music and art in an inspiring coastal landscape. Talks, performances and workshops invite visitors to slow down and savour Cornwall’s creative spirit.
  • Fowey Literary Festival (1st–9th May) - Once home to Daphne du Maurier, Fowey has long been a haven for writers. The literary festival continues that legacy with author talks, discussions and readings set among the town’s charming streets and estuary views.
  • Penzance LitFest (7th–11th July) - Celebrating both established and emerging voices, this lively festival brings writers, poets and readers together across venues in historic Penzance. Expect thoughtful conversations, inspiring readings and plenty of creative energy.

Theatre

  • Trebah Gardens Performances - With its lush sub-tropical setting leading down to a private beach, Trebah provides a magical stage for outdoor theatre. Highlights include the suspenseful Things We Didn’t Say murder mystery (21st–22nd May), Hamlet (6th June), the family-friendly Stories of the Sea (11th June), and the witty classic Much Ado About Nothing (2nd August).
  • The Poly, Falmouth – NT Live Screenings - This much-loved arts venue brings the best of National Theatre productions to Cornwall. Screenings of The Playboy of the Western World (4th June) and Les Liaisons Dangereuses (26th June) offer world-class theatre in an intimate setting.
  • Hall for Cornwall, Truro - Cornwall’s largest theatre hosts a varied programme of major productions this season. Highlights include Romeo and Juliet (26th April), the joyful Legally Blonde The Musical (5th–9th May), and the beloved MAMMA MIA! running from 2nd–13th June.
  • Minack Theatre, Porthcurno - Perched dramatically on the cliffs above Porthcurno Beach, the Minack Theatre offers one of Cornwall’s most breathtaking performance settings. This season includes the uplifting musical Come From Away (25th–29th May), the magical family show The Piskie in the Garden (29th May–28th August), and the much-loved modern musical Dear Evan Hansen (27th–31st July), all performed against the unforgettable backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean.
