Hidden Cornwall itinerary: Clear waters and coastal walks in Coverack
Tucked along the eastern edge of the The Lizard Peninsula, Coverack offers a different side of Cornwall, one shaped by the sea, yet far removed from the busier coastal hotspots.
Here, whitewashed cottages tumble gently towards a crescent-shaped bay, fishing boats rest on the shoreline, and the water is often as calm as it is clear. There’s a simplicity to life in Coverack. Mornings begin by the sea, days unfold along the coast path, and evenings are spent watching the light fade over the harbour.
It’s Cornwall at its most relaxed and quietly beautiful – a place where you can truly switch off, yet still feel connected to the landscape around you.
Tips from a local
- Best time to visit: Late spring through to early autumn is ideal, when the sea is calmer and the village comes to life. September is a particular favourite – warm water, quieter paths and golden light across the bay.
- Swimming conditions: Coverack’s sheltered bay makes it one of the best spots on the Lizard for wild swimming. The water is often calm and clear, especially in the mornings. At low tide, the beach reveals sandy stretches and rockpools perfect for exploring.
- Walking conditions: The South West Coast Path runs directly through the village, offering spectacular coastal walks in both directions. Paths can be uneven and rugged in places, so good footwear is recommended, but the views make every step worthwhile.
- Dog-friendly: Coverack is wonderfully dog-friendly, with year-round access to the beach and plenty of coastal paths to explore. Local cafes and pubs are also welcoming to four-legged visitors.
- Local insight: Head out early or later in the day to experience Coverack at its quietest, when the harbour is still and the coastline feels almost untouched.
A 3-day Coverack itinerary
Day 1 – Sea adventures and coastal exploring
Start your day with a swim in the calm waters of Coverack bay, followed by a slow walk along the harbour as the village comes to life.
Mid-morning, join a session with Coverack Windsurfing Centre, whether it’s paddleboarding, kayaking or windsurfing, the sheltered bay offers the perfect conditions to get out on the water.
In the afternoon, pick up the South West Coast Path and head south towards hidden coves and dramatic clifftop views, with the chance to spot seabirds and seals along the way.
End the day with dinner at The Lifeboat House Restaurant, where fresh seafood and harbour views make for a memorable evening.

Day 2 – Hidden coastlines and slower moments
Spend the morning exploring some of the area’s lesser-known spots, such as nearby coves along the coast or venturing towards the dramatic coastline of Kynance Cove, one of Cornwall’s most striking beaches.
For a more leisurely pace, enjoy a coffee stop or light lunch back in the village, or take time to browse local shops and soak up the atmosphere. We recommend Loft, just above the harbour, for beautiful views and coffee.
In the afternoon, head inland to Fat Apples Cafe for homemade cakes and seasonal dishes, or visit a nearby farm shop to pick up fresh local produce.
As evening falls, return to Coverack for a relaxed dinner or a quiet night in, perhaps cooking with the day’s local finds.
Day 3 – Luxury touches and local discoveries
Begin with a coastal walk north along the cliffs, taking in wide sea views and the rugged beauty of the Lizard coastline.
For something a little different, arrange a private boat experience, exploring hidden beaches and secluded swimming spots from the water.
Alternatively, spend a restorative afternoon with Resonant Being, where a session of sound healing allows you to reconnect to yourself.
Before you leave, stop for one last treat – perhaps an ice cream by the harbour or a little further inland at Roskilly’s, a renowned Cornish ice cream farm.
Coverack offers a balance that’s hard to find – a place where adventure and relaxation sit side by side, and where the landscape invites you to explore at your own pace.
From swimming in crystal-clear waters and walking the coast path to discovering hidden coves and enjoying freshly caught seafood, it’s a destination that rewards curiosity and encourages you to slow down.
A quieter corner of Cornwall, and one that stays with you long after you leave.
