The Gems142 – Hiking for the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity

As a proud B-Corp, we are passionate about supporting the well-being of our people and Cornish communities.

That’s why, from 1st to 7th April, our company’s owners and dedicated founders – Nadia and Tom Macer-Wright – have taken on the Gems142, and walked 142 miles along the north Cornwall stretch of the South West Coast Path, to raise £3500 for the installation of a solar powered sound bench at our local hospital, Treliske.

Helping our local heroes

Capturing the essence of their commitment to the Cornish community, Nadia and Tom have hiked the rugged North Coast of Cornwall, from Welcombe Bay to Land’s End. Nadia and Tom hope to inspire others to recognise and support the incredible work of healthcare professionals and to celebrate the unique tapestry of Cornwall’s landscapes and communities. It’s a journey of gratitude, reflection, and connection, reinforcing the bonds between Cornish Gems, its partners, and the wider community.

What we’re raising money for

Led by Nadia and Tom, the team are looking to raise £3500 for the installation of a solar powered bench at Cornwall’s main hospital, Treliske. The pioneering sound art installation from Justin Wiggan at EchoPoint will provide patients and staff with a sonic safe space, where a carefully curated and structured soundscape is played to help listeners redirect negative emotions when they are in crisis, and enter a state of calm.

Nadia said: “We strive to keep the well-being of our people and communities at our hearts, which is why it seemed only natural to raise money to support staff and patient wellbeing, at our local hospital, Treliske.

“In today’s fast paced world – and even more so when times are tough – it’s incredibly important to find a safe space in which to breathe, take stock, and reset. We want to help patients and staff to take a moment to reduce their anxiety levels, build their resilience, and ultimately use mindfulness tools to help their healing process.”

We invited the team at RCHT to try our EchoPoint Bench at Gems HQ.

“Breaks are so important, so if we can have something like this at the hospital, staff can spend 6 minutes sitting, decompressing and focusing on themselves.” – Karen Murrish, Fundraising Manager

“I find it so helpful to just sit down for 6 minutes. The instructions were so useful and really calming” – Amy Aucott, Community Fundraiser
