Gems of the Dragon: The House of The Dragon Filming Locations in Cornwall

St Michaels Mount, Marazion

A compelling setting for Driftmark (the ancestral seat of House Velaryon) this rocky island castle is spectacular in its own right. Steeped in legend and history, St Michaels Mount has weathered many times of battle; from the War of the Roses to the Civil War. It’s cannons once brought a Napoleonic ship to its capture, and inside the castles walls, there’s a piece of Napoleons coat that he wore at the Battle of Waterloo.

Live like Royalty: Seascape, Marazion

Visitors to Mounts Bay can immerse themselves in coastal life at Seascape; our incredible beach front home with jackpot views of the sparkling bay and St Michaels Mount. The bay is often littered with the dancing sails of kite surfers, windsurfers and sailors that flock here, and it’s also a popular place with swimmers and paddleboarders.

Holywell Bay

Matt Smith and Emma D’Arcy (Daemon and Rhaenyra Targaryen) were spotted during a beach scene on Holywell Bay, just outside of the surfing Mecca of Newquay. Holywell Bay has to be one of Cornwall’s most scenic beaches; a wide open bay flanked by grassy dunes. And the magic doesn’t end with the Targaryen sightings here, as at low tide, visitors can search inside sea caves for the legendary ‘Holy Well’ – a rainbow coloured, grotto like formation made from calcium deposits.

Live like Royalty: Halekulani, Holywell

Halekulani is Hawaiian for ‘house befitting heaven’. This modern day beach house is just moments from Holywell Bay and welcomes dogs, who can bound free along the dog-friendly bay. Just a pebbles throw away from Halekulani surfers hit the waves, children leap along the dunes, and a quiet spot waits for you to set up camp for the day.

Kynance Cove

Kynance Cove, famous for its white sand and bright turquoise sea, features in episode two as The Stepstones of Westeros; a small group of rocky islands, just south of Kings Landing. This is where Daemon Targaryen launches his offensive.

Live like Royalty: Bodrigy, Cadgwith

Bodrigy is set high above the postcard-perfect fishing cove of Cadgwith on the Lizard Peninsula, and we think it provides the perfect base for exploring this rugged coastline. Plus, it showcases some of the most stunning seascapes in Cornwall.
